A Close Call: Fire at Chalcedon

Dear Friend, we write today with deep gratitude to report on a serious wildfire that struck our area yesterday, September 2. The fire came perilously close to Chalcedon’s properties—our housing, ministry offices, and the personal library of R. J. Rushdoony—but by God’s grace and mercy, no structures were lost.
As Mark shared:
“Darlene and I were in the next county when we got word of the fire. It was caused by lightning. By the time we got home the fire was right behind the office where firefighters stopped it. It burned up to my fence and within 20 feet of Isaac’s house (my Dad’s old house) and within 30 feet of the library. Lots of pink fire retardant was dropped. Isaac was on duty and was able to come. Ross was off duty but I called and he also came and helped put out fire around Isaac’s house. The girls left. I stayed. No structures here burned, but the fire could now threaten Murphys. We are all safe.”
We thank God for His providential protection and for the courageous service of the firefighters—including Isaac and Ross, who were on the scene. The flames reached right to the fences, but the Lord spared every building.
Please continue to pray for those in nearby communities who remain under threat. We are reminded again that our times are in His hands.
With gratitude,
The Chalcedon Foundation
