Rich Historical Exegesis, In a New Editorial Presentation
We live in an age of evangelical articles and highly-charged internet clips proclaiming (again) the imminent end of the world and return of Jesus. But today’s theological questions have often been answered by previous biblical exegetes, and we would do well to pay heed to those time-tested paths and stand on the shoulders of theological giants.
To this end, editors Kenneth L. Gentry, Jr. and Bill Boney have curated selections from one of these giants, Geerhardus Vos, into a single volume—seeking to bring renewed access and awareness to some of these time-tested paths. Without altering Vos’ argumentation in any way, the editors have taken great care to make Vos’ complex writing more accessible to a modern audience. They have brought footnote text into the main body where appropriate, broken up exceptionally long sentences and paragraphs, updated archaic spelling and abbreviations, and modernized Hebrew and Greek transliterations.
Vos covers much ground in these selections, including the concept of eschatology in the Old and New Testaments, in pre-Christian thought, in Jesus’ words, and in the Paul’s body of work, and explores the nature of the uniquely Christian conception of the resurrection, its extent, and its timing.
